Alliance Rail Holdings plan to introduce new train services to the UK under the banner of Great North Eastern Railways (GNER) and Great North Western Railways (GNWR). They approached me to develop a new logo and visual identity.
This original sketch of the lion’s head formed the corner stone of the visual identity. The lion motif is a nod to the traditional British Rail logo (the one with the lion standing over a wheel).
I traced the sketch, tidied up a few bits, and applied it to the brand family.
The font is Bliss. Which is based on Gill Sans, which is based on Johnstone - well-known for its use on the London Underground.
